Asbestos brake
Asbestos has been used as a reinforcement material for brake pads since its inception. Due to its high strength and high temperature resistance, asbestos fibers can meet the requirements of brake pads, clutch discs and gaskets. The fiber has strong tensile strength, even matching high-grade steel, and can withstand temperatures as high as 316 degrees Celsius. More importantly, asbestos is relatively cheap. It is derived from amphibolite, which is found in large quantities in many countries, so asbestos brake pads were once the mainstream of brake pads.
But asbestos brake pads are now largely obsolete because they have some serious defects.
